Yellow Ostrich || Der Rathskeller 4.4.11

Thank God Yellow Ostrich finally returned to Wisconsin! It’s been almost a year since he last played here at the Urban Agrarian release show at the Gates of Heaven Synagogue. Since, he’s moved to Brooklyn, added a few more people to his band, and toured extensively, including playing many shows at SXSW a few weeks ago. Basically, he’s blowing up. If you can pack the Rathskeller on a Monday night, I’d say you’re doing something right.

This show was completely different than Gates of Heaven. Last time, he was a one man band, but last night, he had two other bandmates joining him onstage- Michael Tapper and Jon Natchez, who gave the music more of a rock-and-roll feel. He also played many new songs tucked in between old favorites. There was an intimate feel to the show and it was apparent that Alex was happy to be back in his home state, preforming in front of family and friends. They ended the show with my favorite song, Mary, off of the album, The Mistress (I strongly suggest buying this on vinyl- it’s, fittingly, yellow!).

You can download and listen to Yellow Ostrich albums on their bandcamp.
