Maps & Atlases//Snake on the Lake

Friday, September 3rd, Madison’s Student Radio- WSUM 91.7FM, held their annual Snake on the Lake Festival at the Memorial Union with Chicago’s Maps & Atlases headlining. Sadly, though the mini-festival was supposed to actually be ON THE LAKE at the Terrace, rainy and unseasonably cold weather forced the the show inside the Rathskeller– but to little overall disappointment.

The full lineup included Maps & Atlases, Flight, Phonetic One, and Meteorade. The turnout was fantastic for an indoor show on such a gloomy night, and those that did show were greatly rewarded. Having seen M&A last in such an intimate setting in the basement of Strictly Discs, it was apparent this time that the band feeds a lot off of the energy of larger crowds. They played many tracks off of their recently released album Perch Patchwork and had the crowd dancing and singing along.  Overall, it was a great back-to-school show, and it was exciting to see a lot of the new students get introduced to the exact music scene that got me interested in it only a short time ago.

More photos after the break!
